Quick update. I won a competition a few months back for what I'd believed at the time would lead me to open up for a major at a Spring Break event sometime in April. Well, no... I was wrong. I ended up performing for Empire, Interscope, Hip Hop DX, etc, basically some officials in the hip hop game. Anyways, long story short, I competed and lost by 1. They picked two winners to tour the country, I came in 3rd. Damn, I was close.
Was I disappointed, um, no not really. I was too tired to be disappointed. Both the flight and audition was scheduled for April 14th. After a night of packing and wondering, I finally went to bed at around 4am and woke up at 6 in the morning. I hustled to the airport at 7:30 am, boarded a plane at 9:30 and got to San Diego around 1:30pm. From there I had to hustle to the event. That lands me at the event at around 2:45 but check this out, the event was at a Westin on Broadway. Why are there two Westins on Broadway!?!?! We jump out not knowing, only to get inside after first paying to park, that we are at the WRONG WESTIN! So, we hurry back to the car and get to the other Westin, but wait, no parking. So now we're driving around for 20 minutes trying to park. I finally hop out with my makeup bag run in and attempt to straiten myself out because guess what? I'm on at 3:10pm. No shower, no rest, no break, no hair person, no make up chick, none of my usual stuff. Just me, God, these bars and the judges.
They didn't even let me know until after the last event of the night who won. That was 12 midnight, Cali time. I'm from Cleveland. I'm too tired to be pissed. Way too tired. Not to mention, I'm now on the radar. I met 10 or so powerful people, a few execs, some magazine editors and someone from Empire whom Brooke has been chasing for years.
It's all coming together, it's just taking a very long time. So, above all things I'm thankful. Plus, I'm up next if anything goes wrong with either of the guys the judges chose.
Overall, as you can see from the pictures below, I had a great time. I got to meet some knowledgeable people, take some dope images, go to the dispensary (that's a whole other hilarious story), get some phone numbers and emails, and the ball just keeps on rolling. Special shout out to artist auditions. Thank you for the opportunity.
Thank you all for taking the ride. Next stop Kent State, May 5th. I'll keep you informed.
